What is Commie Coin?

Commie Coin is a creative community and a crypto currency established in 2021.

The community has a communist-inspired, radically equitable distribution philosophy: We explore what role decentralised finance, crypto, web3.0, art, humor and DAOs can play in the redistribution of wealth.

The currency – $COMMIE coins – are created on the carbon negative Algorand Blockchain as an Algorand Standard Asset (ASA) with the ID: 714763450.

Commie Coin is community-owned and community driven.

Why did you restructure and relaunch Commie Coin?

To demonstrate the opposition of the Commie Coin community to Putin’s despotic act of war and transgressions against Ukraine.

Commie Coin have always been anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, free-thinking and democratic. We are an inclusive and open-minded community, where community artists draw inspiration from, and play with everything from 80’s US commercials to old soviet structuralist art, imagery and aesthetics.

When the world witnessed Putin starting a war of aggression against the free nation and people of Ukraine, the community immediately decided that we needed to make our stance clear, and rethink our brand-identity.

We are still cheeky commies, but we felt it inappropriate to utilize the old ‘USSR’ ticker, since Putin made mad, disinformational, and historically false claims in order to legitimise his attack on Ukraine using old soviet imperialist rhetoric and symbolism.

The decision to start fresh with the new $COMMIE ticker, and the neccesary ASA to acommodate it was taken democratically after open discussion and voting in the community in March 2022.
